Ski Slopes in Podhale: A Guide for Beginners and Advanced Skiers

Podhale is Poland’s top skiing region, but no two slopes here are alike. On Kasprowy Wierch you ski in high-mountain terrain, on natural snow only, in weather that can change within an hour. A few kilometres away, in Białka Tatrzańska, wide, groomed runs come with floodlights and snowmaking. And right in Zakopane there are smaller stations that are perfect for your first turns or a short afternoon session.

In this guide we sort the ski slopes in Podhale by skill level, from your first ride on a magic carpet to the steep runs of the Goryczkowa bowl. For each resort we give the driving distance from Villa T at Sienkiewicza 7 in central Zakopane.

What makes skiing in Podhale different?

Slopes for beginners and children

For your first days on skis, what matters is a gentle gradient, a magic carpet or short lift, and a ski school on site. These places tick all the boxes:

Harenda (Zakopane, approx. 4 km from Villa T)

A floodlit slope with snowmaking, beginner runs and steeper descents next to them. There is a ski school, equipment rental, food and a large car park, so it is easy to spend a whole day here with children.

Polana Szymoszkowa (Zakopane, approx. 3 km from Villa T)

A station on the slopes of Gubałówka with two chairlifts and a ski school. At the lower station there is a KidsPark with a magic carpet for the youngest skiers and snowboarders. For families it is one of the most convenient options right in Zakopane.

Kaniówka and Bania (Białka Tatrzańska, approx. 21 km)

Kaniówka is the part of the Białka complex geared towards the youngest skiers: gentle, shorter runs, platter lifts and magic carpets. Bania has shorter, easier runs and sits next to the thermal baths, so after skiing you can head straight to the warm pools. A ski bus connects both with Kotelnica Białczańska.

Witów Ski and Jurgów Ski

Witów Ski (approx. 15 km from Villa T) is a wide slope with a calmer atmosphere, good for beginners and intermediates. Jurgów Ski (approx. 24 km) has around 4 km of runs for beginners and intermediates, views of the Belianske Tatras and usually smaller crowds than Białka.

Rusiń-ski (Bukowina Tatrzańska)

A resort with a four-seat chairlift, a T-bar and a magic carpet for beginners. A good choice if your group has mixed abilities.

Tip: book a few hours of ski school for the first days. Also note that in Poland children under 16 must wear a helmet on the slopes.

Slopes for intermediate skiers

Once you are confident on blue runs, look for resorts with a wider choice of descents and longer runs.

Kotelnica Białczańska (Białka Tatrzańska, approx. 21 km)

The largest station in Podhale: well over ten kilometres of runs of varying difficulty, fast six-seat chairlifts with heated seats, snowmaking and floodlights for evening skiing. There is also a snowpark for snowboarders and freestyle fans, so everyone in the family will find a run to suit them.

Harenda and Polana Szymoszkowa

Right in Zakopane, both stations offer steeper descents alongside their beginner runs. A good choice for a shorter afternoon session without a long drive.

Slopes for advanced skiers

Kasprowy Wierch (lower cable car station in Kuźnice, approx. 4 km from Villa T)

For experienced skiers this is a must. Take a bus or taxi to Kuźnice, ride the cable car up and choose between two bowls:

Kasprowy Wierch relies on natural snow only, and the runs open only when conditions allow. Before you go, check the announcements from PKL (the cable car operator) and TOPR (the Tatra mountain rescue), dress in layers and stay on the marked runs: this is high-mountain terrain.

The toughest runs in Białka

If the weather on Kasprowy Wierch lets you down, the most demanding descents in the area are on Kotelnica Białczańska.

What about Nosal?

Nosal is a legend of Polish skiing, but the chairlift to its summit has not run for years. Before planning a day there, check which lifts and runs are currently open.
