Summer trails – where can you go straight from the centre of Zakopane?

Droga pod Reglami – a green corridor at the foot of the Tatra Mountains

The trail runs parallel to the border of the Tatra National Park, and its course allows you to freely shorten or extend the route depending on your mood. The greatest advantage of Droga pod Reglami is its peaceful, recreational character – it can be covered even with children in a stroller. Along the way, you pass the entrances to the valleys: Białego, Strążyska, Mała Łąka and Za Bramką – these are great starting points for further hikes. In the summer, the trail is almost empty in the mornings and evenings, which makes it ideal for people looking for peace and quiet. The ground is mainly hardened earth and gravel, and the terrain is almost completely flat. The trail is a good choice for the first day of your stay – you can get a rhythm on it, acclimatize and enjoy the mountains at the same time. Additionally, it is a very safe path, also for seniors and families. On hot days, it is worth having water with you – although part of the route runs in the shade, the temperature can be surprising.

➡️ Time to complete the section: approx. 1.5 hours
➡️ The perfect route for acclimatization in the mountains
➡️ Along the way, you can rest in the clearings and on the edge of the forest.

Białego Valley – a short but picturesque route

The Białego Valley is a real gem of Zakopane – short, quiet and incredibly charming. The trail leads along the fast-flowing Biały stream, whose characteristic limestone bed and mini-waterfalls delight photographers and walkers. On the left side there are steep rock walls, on the right – a dense spruce forest. In summer, the valley offers a pleasant coolness and the relaxing sound of water – a perfect contrast to the crowded Krupówki. At the end of the valley there is a fork in the trails – you can return the same way or take the red trail to Sarnia Skała. The entire route does not exceed 2 hours, which makes it one of the most accessible summer routes from Zakopane. It is worth taking something to drink and a camera – the valley can be magical, especially in the morning. We recommend it as a “starter” walk, especially for guests staying overnight in the city centre.

➡️ One-way travel time: 45 minutes
➡️ Perfect for a short walk after breakfast
➡️ The trail ends at the place from which you can return along Droga pod Reglami

The path under Nosal – views that will surprise you

Nosal is one of the most easily accessible peaks from Zakopane, and at the same time a point with a fantastic panorama. The approach is quite steep, but short – thanks to this, the route is perfect for people who want to feel the “mountain ascent” but do not have time for hours of hiking. At the top there is a wide rocky shelf with a view of Giewont, the city and the Gubałówka range. On clear days, you can meet sunset lovers and landscape photographers here. The entrance to the trail starts right at the Kuźnickie roundabout, so you can get there in 15 minutes from your apartment in the city center. The route to Nosal is a great choice for an afternoon trip or an active morning. It is worth taking shoes with good soles – the rocks can be slippery after rain. The view from the top is really impressive and shows how close to nature you can be without going too far from the city.

➡️ Ascent time: approx. 45 minutes, descent: 30 minutes
➡️ Quite a steep climb, but a short section
➡️ At the top, a perfect place for photos or a picnic

Kuźnice – Kalatówki – an easy route with a mountain atmosphere

The trail from Kuźnice to Polana Kalatówki is one of the most popular recommendations for people looking for an easy but mountainous route. It leads through the forest, in places on a wide, paved road, and the higher you go, the more light and space there is. After about 40 minutes of walking, you come to an open clearing, where the historic Kalatówki Shelter is located. In the summer, sheep pastures spread out here, which give the route a homely, idyllic atmosphere. In good weather, you can see fragments of the High Tatras from the clearing, and with a bit of luck – marmots in the nearby rocks. This is an excellent route for families, couples and people who value a quiet rest in the bosom of nature. The shelter offers warm meals and drinks – it is worth stopping for a moment and soaking up the atmosphere. After a rest, you can return the same way or go down to the Białego Valley, creating an attractive loop.

➡️ Entry time: 40–50 minutes
➡️ Possibility of going down another trail to the Białego Valley
➡️ Perfect for a quiet walk with a coffee in the shelter

Routes for the more ambitious – more elevation gain, more views

For people in good physical condition and willing to go higher, we recommend the trails leading from Kuźnice to Hala Gąsienicowa. The route through the Jaworzynka Valley is a classic path among dwarf pines, forests and open spaces – with beautiful views after the first 45 minutes. After about 2 hours of walking, you reach the Murowaniec Shelter, from which you can go to Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy or towards Świnica. This is a route that allows you to really feel the Tatras – and although it starts from the city, it takes you to a completely different world. Alternatively, you can choose the trail through the Strążyska Valley to Sarnia Skała, with a wonderful view of Giewont. In turn, Gęsia Szyja (starting e.g. from Wierch Poroniec, travel by bus) is a scenic classic for a summer day. Each of these routes will provide not only contact with wildlife, but also great satisfaction. It’s worth having provisions with you, a change of layers and a good mood – because mountain challenges in the summer in the Tatras are something that will stay in your memory for a long time.

Another interesting proposition is:

➡️ These are suggestions for people with good physical condition or basic mountain experience.
➡️ A great choice for 2-4 hour “light” trips
➡️ Possibility of going down and back to the center without using transport
